On 10 September, 2014, the Wonder-working Icon of the Mother of God, Abbess of Mount Athos, was invited to visit the Archdiocese of Canada. The Icon was venerated in eastern Canada 15-30 November, 2014.

At the Archdiocesan Assembly on Thursday, in Gatineau, Québec, following the resolution of the Archdiocesan Council (acting as the Episcopal Search Committee), the Archdiocesan Assembly voted in favour of presenting Bishop Irénée (Rochon) to the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in America, as the nominated candidate for canonical election to the vacant Archiepiscopal See of Ottawa and Canada.
